Netopti Dynamic

NetOpti Dynamic is a solution for companies who wish to host their web server on-site over ADSL. This enables sites to deliver content at a speed similar to hosting at a major data centre as well as reducing bandwidth usage significantly, which will allow the site to operate within monthly transfer limitations.

NetOpti Dynamic is a solution for companies who wish to host their web server on-site over ADSL. This enables sites to deliver content at a speed similar to hosting at a major data centre as well as reducing bandwidth usage significantly, which will allow the site to operate within monthly transfer limitations.

Why does it exist?

Telkom's new ADSL offering allows many company affordable leased connectivity to the Internet. However, these links are only capable of transmitting data out at half the speed as it is downloading, and is limited to only 3 Gigabytes of International traffic per month. Users are also assigned a dynamic IP address, which changes daily.

These limitations put serious constraints on the performance, accessibility and reliability of ADSL if used for hosting publicly accessible web servers.

NetOpti provides a transparent solution for customers like these, addressing all the following issues:

Performance

Intelligent caching servers keep a copy data that has already been transferred over the ADSL link in order to prevent it from being downloaded again when other users are accessing it. This means that content gets served to the connecting browsers by the cache servers directly most of the time at a much higher throughput rate as the ADSL can provide.

Bandwidth limitations

Since only updated data gets transmitted, on mostly static sites this can save up to 10 times the monthly International throughput, which means instead of a 3 Gigabyte limit this can allow up to 30 Gigabytes of data transferred per month. If this is not enough, all international traffic can be routed through the NetOpti network, meaning that only local bandwidth will be used over the ADSL, preventing it from hitting the 3 Gigabyte limit completely.

Reliability

Since the NetOpti servers keep data off-site, when there is a failure a backup copy of the information can get displayed to the connecting browsers. Performance of a web site is also not that sensitive to the link being congested, especially if it used for company e-mail and internal web access at the same time.

Most importantly, the NetOpti servers will keep track of the dynamically changing IP address, so that there is absolutely no downtime when the router is assigned a new address daily.

Who is this for?

NetOpti Dynamic is for companies who are taking advantage of ADSL connectivity while wanting to host their web servers on-site, cheaply and reliably.

How does this work?

NetOpti Dynamic works similarly to NetOpti International, except that it also employs an intelligent caching server in South Africa which also keeps track of dynamically changing IP addresses.
